The skincare industry is  going through a Gold-Rush! An aware consumer can be both a boon or bane. In Indian, skincare context, it has turned out to be a boon. To engage & retain such an aware consumer, brands have taken to the organic & natural ways of making these products. Though there are more than 400 homegrown cosmetic brands in India, the ones ruling the roost are backed by extensive research and a personal story. In my quest to learn more about this new wave in the Indian cosmetic industry, I tried several of them.

Here’s a list of my chosen ones –

juicy chemistry

Think chemical-free, think JC. Co-founded by Pritesh&Megha, JC is now a six-year-old concept. And the brand has its patrons all across the globe. All their products are annually certified to earn the prestigious Cosmos Ecocert certification. Their products are extremely concentrated – there is no water or any kind of preservatives used in any formula. Consequently, the products have a shorter shelf life but the maximum efficacy.

My favorite here is the Chilli Oil, which is an Instagram hero of sorts! Specially designed to stimulate new hair growth and it does work at what it claims.

Dot & Key

I am utterly impressed with the USP of Dot & Key. Founded by Anisha & Suyash, the brand promises to take care of all those neglected parts of your body like – underarm skin, feet, dry hands, those rugged knees, and elbows. Of course, the ingredients used are organic & natural, with a promise of giving the best results.

They even have Sanitising Hand Cream (a lifesaver in the current times), which works like wonder. It sanitises your hands and nourishes them too.

Daughter Earth

A very conscious brand, I’d say. Of course, this is toxin free, they lay a great sense of emphasis on the process of extraction, the residue management and their contribution back to the society. The brand is associated with many organisations like Plan India, PETA, and Green Hands. To indulge more in their philosophy do log on to their website.

Imagine a toxin free- natural Lip & Cheek Tint, ala Greek queen Cleopatra. It is believed that she used to grow choicest beetroot to tint her cheek and lip.

Arata

So, this is brand is born out genuine curiosity for goodness. Two friends, Dhruv Bhasin & Dhruv Madhok, would often wonder if there can be a harmless alternative to styling hair gel. Dhruv’s mother had a recipe, which she had created for them and that too made of Flaxseeds. Eureka! The sheer satisfaction of using something save gave birth to the idea of a non-toxin range of products. There’s no concept of ‘key ingredients,’ here. Each and every brand is mentioned on their product.

I am big-Lip-Balm freak, and I totally love their lip balm. Besides that, the bath gel and lotions are my other two favourites.

Just Herbs

I’d say Just Herbs has the most extensive range of natural skincare products. It is the very first Indian cosmetic brand to start with crowdsourcing. The formulas are literally developed by founder Ayush Chopra’s mother in their garden lab in Mohali. The brand finds its mention in international publications like Forbes & Vogue.

Thepeoplebazaar loved – Body Butters & Natural Make-up

India is the land of Ayurveda & Kamasutra. And let’s agree the right knowledge of two put together can illuminate one’s self, beyond eyes can behold 😉

I’ll leave Kamasutra for a later edit! Meanwhile let’s indulge in these honest homegrown goodies.
