Where People Matter

Wordle – Latest Addition to The New York Times’s (pic credit) portfolio of daily original and engaging puzzle games

On Nov 25th, 2021, Brooklyn based software engineer, Josh Wardle tweeted from his handle, “Wordle, a daily word guessing game I made, got a shoutout in the NYT newsletter today”. Fast forward to February 1st, 2022, the same engineer, tweeted a personal note, a-la a fancy celebrity, “I’m incredibly pleased to announce that I have reached an agreement with the New York Times for them to take over running Wordle going forward”. The NYT bought Wordle for more than $ 1 million, reportedly.

If you are alive in the world of social media, you’d probably be aware of this new internet sensation. From aam junta to celebrities like Twinkle Khanna, people are addicted to this game. No wonder, as per NYT, more than 300,000 people play this game every single day.

So, what is Wordle?

Wordle is an online word guessing game. Developed by Josh Wardle, for his girlfriend Palak Shah, the game was first available on the Wordle website. Now one now play the game both on the NYT website & the Wordle website too.

How to play it?

The simplest, ad-free, all white-website explains it all! Wordle gives players six chances to select a random five-letter word. In case one has the right letter in the right place, the box shows green. However, if the letter is correct but it is in the wrong place it shows up as yellow. A letter that is redundant and useless shows as grey.

Apparently, the earliest players of the game aren’t excited about the NYT take over. “The game is harder now. The clues have changed,” but that doesn’t stop them from playing it every day.

But the craze for games is growing. If you haven’t played it yet. Start now!
