Where People Matter

After the super success of Gangubai Khatiawadi, Bollywood seems to be more confident of women-centric films, than ever!!

From Dhaakad to Dhak Dhak… Seven women-centric films to dominate Bollywood till 2023

Dhak Dhak

Produced by Viacom 18 with Tapsee Pannu’s Outsiders Film Productions in association with BLM Pictures, Dhak Dhak is the story of four women undertaking a trip breaking out of their cocoons & discovering themselves through this journey of introspection & adventure. It elaborates on the fact that freedom has to be owned and never given. Starring Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza and Sanjana Sanghi as protagonists. The film is now under production and will hit cinema screens in 2023.

Dhaakad –

Starring Kangana Ranaut as Agent Agni, the film is the first of its kind women-centric action thriller. As per Kangana, this will be a genre-defining film. Scheduled to release on May 20th, it is packed with ruthless action, loud war cry and stunning action sequences. Arjun Rampal plays the antagonist called Rudraveer, who runs a human trafficking cartel and Agent Agni will crack it.

Double XL

Starring Sonakshi Sinha & Huma Qureshi, the film questions the norms of a perfect beauty set by society. Talking about the film, Huma has been quoted saying in the Variety magazine, “In all cultures, there are ways in which we try and standardize beauty and we try and almost tell young girls, that [if] you don’t adhere to a certain body type, you are not beautiful, cherished, you’re not special, you’re not valued. Why do we not see models representing real women’s bodies? Why do we not see actresses of all shapes and sizes? They exist, so why are you not seeing that on the big screen? Because what it leads to is a lot of young women and men grow up with complexes as if they’re not good enough. It leads to some very unhealthy lifestyle choices.” The film is produced by Huma herself, though the shooting of the film is complete, the release date is not confirmed yet.

Darlings

Co-produced by Alia Bhatt, Gauri Khan & Gaurav Verma, the trailer was introduced by none other than Shah Rukh Khan himself. While the trailer starts with a cautionary warning about disrespecting women, it ends up letting out the genre of the film as Dark comedy. Starring Alia Bhatt, & Shefali Shah in lead roles, the film is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2022.

This will be Anushka Sharma’s much-awaited comeback film. Another biographic film on the life of the cricketer Jhulan Goswami, the film will be released on Netflix. Talking about the film, Anushka had posted on her Twitter account, “It is a really special film because it is essentially a story of tremendous sacrifice. Chakda Xpress is inspired by the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami and it will be an eye-opener into the world of women’s cricket.”
